With nightly temperatures near or at freezing over the weekend in Chicago, there was a noticeable drop in shooting victims from the previous few months . Hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come despite the numbers still being too high.

At least one person was murdered and another 21 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. This past weekend’s total is down from the previous weekend, which saw at least eight killed with another 35 wounded.

The only person, as of this writing, that died in a shooting over the weekend was 28-year-old February Burage after a gunshot wound to the head.

Young people were also the targets of shooters over the weekend, with the wounded including a 12- year-old accidentally shot by a 13-year-old. A 14-year-old and 16-year-old were also shot in separate shootings.

The year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims in Chicago is now up to at least 290 people dead and 1,527 people wounded. The Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, reported that 3,619 have been victims of shootings, as of November 4. That is 1,231 more than at the same point in 2019, and the second highest number behind the same point in 2016 (3,832).
