Californians are moving to Texas in droves, and Texans are praying they don’t bring their left-leaning politics with them.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the number of Californians who picked up their toys and took them to the Lone Star State skyrocketed more than 33 percent in 2018, even as the West Coast liberal haven seeks to pass even higher taxes and more hefty restrictions on its populace while struggling under an ever-mounting homeless crisis.
The Texas Realtors’ Association reported that more than 86,000 Californians relocated the Texas in 2018. In fact, Florida was the only state with more inbound moves than Texas, largely thanks to retirees looking to move south, the Dallas Morning News reported.
When it comes to exactly where most of the newcomers were moving from, the top urban areas included Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, New York-Newark-Jersey City and Chicago-Naperville-Elgin.
“In addition to its business-friendly environment with no state income tax and abundance of jobs, land and opportunity, Texas is known for its diverse, friendly spirit and culture,” explained Cindi Bulla, chairman of Texas Realtors.
But if newcomers from the Golden State want to bring their left-leaning politics along with their living room furniture, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has something he wants them to know.
“To the Californians moving to Texas: Remember those high taxes, burdensome regulations, & socialistic agenda advanced in CA? We don't believe in that,” Abbott tweeted Thursday. “We believe in less government & more individual freedom. If you agree with that you'll fit right in.”
