NRA CEO Slams Gun Control ‘Opportunists’: They ‘Care Not One Whit’ About School Safety

National Rifle Association Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre at CPAC on Thursday slammed gun control supporters, saying their only solution to the issue of school shootings “is to make you, all of you, less free.”

“Their solution is to make you, all of you, less free,” he said. “They want to sweep right under the carpet the failure of school security, the failure of family, the failure of America’s mental health system, and even the unbelievable failure of the FBI.”

He called that Democrats and the media “opportunists” who “waited not one second to exploit tragedy for political gain.”

“As usual, the opportunists waited not one second to exploit tragedy for political gain,” said LaPierre, mentioning “the break back speed of calls for more gun control laws and the breathless national media eager to smear the NRA.”

“They hate the NRA. They hate the Second Amendment. They hate individual freedom,” he went on.

“The elites don’t care not one wit about America’s school system and school children,” LaPierre said. “If they truly cared, what they would do is they would protect them.”

The NRA CEO called for armed guards in schools, saying, “To stop a bad guy with a gun it takes a good guy with a gun.”

He said that the NRA shares the goal of “safe schools, safe neighborhoods, and a safe country,” despite smears by the media and lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

“They care more about control and more of it,” LaPierre said.
