This next one you couldn’t make up if you tried. Let’s get this straight: YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was given an award for “Free Expression” by organization holding an event sponsored by…YouTube. Yeah, the stupid is strong with this one.
Wojcicki, the woman who overlooks a platform that routinely censors free speech, was given the “Free Expression Award” for “courageous acts of free and fearless expression.
Of course, that doesn’t include speech that people in Silicon Valley don’t like or agree with.
The event was hosted by “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt, with awards also going to notables like “civil rights and social justice activist” DeRay Mckesson, former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and the “founding mothers of NPR.”
Wojcicki herself appeared virtually to accept the award and actually spoke about YouTube’s increased censorship as a way to somehow protect speech.
“From the very beginning, we wouldn't allow adult content, hate content, dangerous content, all of those types of content could really make it that YouTube is no longer a platform that's viable for all those different voices out there,” Wojcicki said. “As YouTube has become bigger and has had more of an impact, we've seen a need to increase what we're doing from a responsibility standpoint.”
Come on, lady. In reaility, the content she mentioned “could really make it that YouTube is no longer a platform that’s viable” to the advertisers that spend millions of dollars on said platform. It’s about money. Whatever keeps the green flowing in. Free speech be damned.
The left appears to be completely self-unaware — except apparently when it comes to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia and every other “ism” and “phobia” that they themselves created.
YouTube is notorious for censoring speech that isn’t pre-approved by some Big Tech entity that determines what is or isn’t allowed to be talked about for fear of being outed as the phonies and frauds they classify others that don’t fall in lockstep with their narratives as being.
In their most recent high profile censoring of speech they deem “harmful,” YouTube censored and demonetized the channel of conservative talk show host Steven Crowder back in March without much explanation.
Crowder is admittedly “edgy” in today’s society, but would’ve been average 30-40 years ago when people weren’t so sensitive about every single thing people say.
To give an award to a woman that overlooks a company that actively and unabashedly censors people for their beliefs and their speech is ridiculous and open to copious amounts of mockery.
