Nikki Haley Distancing Herself From Trump: 'We Shouldn't Have Followed Him'

It hasn’t taken long for the opportunists to jump ship now that former President Donald Trump isn’t in office anymore. With the new regime in power in the U.S., people who are rumored to want to stay in the political spotlight in the post-Trump era are making their feelings known in no uncertain terms.

Trump’s former Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Nikki Haley verbally ran him down in a Politico article published on Friday, speaking in terms that leftist’s typically use in order to minimize the former president’s legacy.

“We need to acknowledge he let us down,” Haley said. “He went down a path he shouldn’t have, and we shouldn’t have followed him, and we shouldn’t have listened to him. And we can’t let that ever happen again.”

Haley also conveyed that she’s “angry” with Trump after his criticisms of former Vice President Mike Pence.

“When I tell you I’m angry, it’s an understatement,” Haley told Politico. “Mike has been nothing but loyal to that man. He’s been nothing but a good friend of that man. … I am so disappointed in the fact that [despite] the loyalty and friendship he had with Mike Pence, that he would do that to him. Like, I’m disgusted by it.”

Haley did admit that supporters of Trump still “love” him and that sentiment isn’t going away any time soon.

“I know how much people love Donald Trump. I know it. I feel it," she continued. "Whether it’s an RNC room or social media or talking to donors, I can tell you that the love they have for him is still very strong. That’s not going to just fall to the wayside.”

Haley's comments come just six months after she supported Trump during the 2020 Republican National Convention (RNC) last August.

Whether Haley is saying what she’s saying in order to hedge her future bets or whether she’s saying how she truly feels, it should be interesting to see how distancing herself from the man that brought her into the national conversation affects her future.
