You have to look for a silver lining somewhere. At least the Chicago weekend shooting numbers are better than what we saw on Independence Day alone.
Over the weekend, two people were murdered and 32 others were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area. This is just barely down from Independence Day night where eight people were murdered and 31 others were wounded.
The entire Independence Day weekend saw 15 people killed in cold blood with another 86 wounded in the Second City.
Here’s an example of the violence:
The weekend's only fatal shooting thus far occurred at a gas station in the city’s Englewood neighborhood, according to police. The 27-year-old male victim was involved in an argument with another man in the parking lot of a gas station in the 6600 block of S. Halsted St. around 11:18 p.m. when the offender pulled out a handgun and shot him, authorities said. He sustained gunshot wounds in the right shoulder and arm, according to police, and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced [dead].
On an interesting side note, NBC 5 - Chicago reported that almost 25 percent of all the shooting victims were shot within the first nine hours of the weekend beginning.
Even with FBI and ATF agents aiding the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the violence in the Windy City doesn’t seem to be dissipating.
