Remember when the wide world of sports was a place we could all go to escape politics and divisive rhetoric and simply enjoy a game together?
Alright, so, it’s been a while. But we can reminisce.
Because gone are the days of non-“woke” athletics, as the NBA, in the latest move by sports organizations and franchises to score social justice points, will reportedly paint “Black Lives Matter” on the sidelines of the three arenas they’ll use Walt Disney World Resort when their 2019-20 season resumes later this summer, according to ESPN. The effort will be in conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association.
Far from being simply a movement demanding justice for black victims of police brutality, "Black Lives Matter" refers to the larger, openly Marxist, radical left-wing organization that also calls for the rejection of the nuclear family and the push for a more "queer-affirming" society.
The move comes just after the NBA said they’re considering letting players wear social justice messages on their jerseys when the season resumes. ESPN reports that some players with the WNBA have suggested wearing t-shirts with the slogan “Say Her Name,” referring to police shooting victim Breonna Taylor.
Likewise, the NFL has already announced it will spend $250 million on "social justice initiatives" over the next 10 years, supposedly targeting "systemic racism" and “the battle against the ongoing and historic injustices faced by African Americans.”
