Chuck Todd Says Roy Moore Doesn't 'Believe in the Constitution' Because He Said Our Rights Come From God

MSNBC host Chuck Todd still has a job. We’re not sure why, but he still has one.

Todd attempted to take GOP Alabama Senate primary winner Roy Moore to task by playing a clip in which Moore states that our rights “come from God.”

“Roy Moore with a phrase Christian conservative doesn't even begin to describe him,” Todd said, “could very well be your next U.S. Senator. First off, he doesn’t appear to believe in the Constitution as it’s written.”

Todd then showed a clip of Moore speaking after his primary victory in which Moore stated, “Our rights don’t come from government, they don’t come from the Bill of Rights, they come from Almighty God.”

In showing this clip, Todd is attempting to denigrate the institution of religion by implying that our basic human rights aren’t God-given.

However, the contrast in Todd’s implication comes from those that liberals hold in very high esteem.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said this in 1967, “every man has rights that are neither conferred by nor derived from the state, they are God-given.”

During his inaugural address in 1961, late President John F. Kennedy said that “the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.”

While the name “God” never actually appears in the Constitution, “God” is referenced in the Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Perhaps Todd should pursue another line of work, because his smug dismissal of people’s faith in God is very telling.
