MSNBC analyst and former prosecutor Glenn Kirschner suggested in a series of tweets Tuesday the he would attempt to prosecute President Donald Trump for negligent homicide in regard to his handling of the coronavirus outbreak.
Kirschner began his long Twitter thread by stating that the president “may have criminal exposure for some level of negligent homicide or voluntary/involuntary manslaughter for the way he’s mishandled the coronavirus crisis.”
After these initial comments, Kirschner went on to reference his own career as a prosecutor, saying he had always been “on the lookout for novel ways to apply homicide...liability in an attempt to appropriately and ethically hold accountable those who were responsible for taking the life of a fellow human being.”
In conclusion, Kirschner accused the president of “negligent/grossly negligent (and/or possibly intentional) mishandling” of the response to the coronavirus pandemic. He declared that the issue was “thorny” and “nuanced”, but all possible criminal charges would have to be investigated.
As ways of using the coronavirus outbreak for the wrong reason go, this one is certainly an unusual route to go.
