J.K. Dobbins, a star running back for Ohio State University, made waves this weekend for helping the Buckeyes dominate the Michigan Wolverines and already setting the second-highest record for rushing yards in the school’s history.
But it’s the potential Heisman Trophy candidate's personal story off the field that’s now catching some attention.
Following Dobbins’ touchdown during Saturday’s game, FOX sports announcer Gus Johnson detailed how Dobbins’ mother, pregnant at only 18, chose life for the baby who would one day become one of the best running backs in the nation.
“J.K. Dobbins’ mom, Maya, became pregnant when she was 18 years old. She went to the doctor because she was thinking about aborting the baby, but changed her mind,” Johnson explained.
"The baby turned out to be that young man, who she calls her 'miracle baby,’” he added.
Wow! A @CFBONFOX football announcer just shared that the mother of star @OhioState player, @Jkdobbins22, walked out of an abortion facility & rejected abortion after becoming pregnant at 18.

But apparently, Johnson’s daring to share the story of a mother who chose life and the extraordinary child who was spared from abortion didn’t sit well with pro-abortion radicals on Twitter, who slammed the sports announcer for his “stigmatizing” comments.
Why is it necessary to discuss a mother’s reproductive choices to extol the talents of a brilliant player?

So weird. So stigmatizing. So WTF. pic.twitter.com/Txl5TYYcZh
WTF! Gus Johnson making an anti abortion statement was ridiculous & uncalled for. You should be ashamed of yourself. And guess what?! No one gives a flying fuck about your MALE opinion on abortion...also not to mention a total invasion of the privacy of JK Dobbins and his family

JK Dobbins was almost an abortion... Things I don’t need to hear during a football game.

dawg why did the announcer say jk dobbins mom was gonna abort him but she changed her mind LMFAO
— guelph (@guwop) November 30, 2019
Did Gus Johnson really just tell America that Jk Dobbins mom almost got an abortion? Maybe some privacy or you know ... just talk about football

Then again, it only makes sense that supporters of infanticide would be “triggered” by powerful stories of women who selflessly choose life for their babies, only for those babies to grow into talented young adults who add value to the world around them – star athlete or not.
