According to Noticias Telemundo Investiga, a 35 year-old woman from Honduras, Miriam Izaguirre, and her son turned themselves in to authorities after crossing the border, they were quickly released in Texas a few hours later, where she received a rapid COVID-19 test that came back positive.
While waiting for a bus in Brownsville, TX, Izaguirre told Noticias Telemundo Investiga, "Right now we were tested for Covid and they separated about eight of us because we were positive. We are waiting right now."
The group of COVID-19 positive migrants were waiting to travel throughout the east coast . A spokesperson from Brownsville confirmed that these families are tested at the bus station following their release from Border Patrol.
Since they began testing by this method in late January, 108 tests have come back positive, representing over 6% of the tests administered.
The city claims it does not have the authority to retain migrants who are set to travel throughout the country. Many decide to travel despite the test results, according to NBC News.

On Tuesday, President Biden delivered remarks to the public in which he stressed the importance of continuing to follow CDC guidelines such as social distancing and wearing masks as the rate of COVID-19 cases across the country steadily decreases. He did not address the situation at the border despite being asked about it.
