Actress and outspoken President Trump critic Meryl Streep at a fundraising event over the weekend said that she “empathizes” with Trump now that his children “are in jeopardy.”

Streep made the comment at the annual Montclair Film fundraiser hosted by Stephen Colbert in Newark, N.J., on Sunday when discussing with the “Late Show” host how actors are “natural empaths” and how imagining “what it’s like to be other people” is “the thing that will save us, if we will be saved,” the Vanity Fair reported.

Colbert, of course, had to make things political and asked Streep what it’s like “to see a president who is so indifferent to empathy.”

Streep replied that she “does empathize” with Trump insofar as she “can’t image what his 3 a.m. is like” as he and his children are facing a “gathering storm” amid the ongoing special counsel Robert Mueller investigation into alleged collusion with Russia.

By her so-called empathy, she then warned that "we should be afraid" because Trump “would do anything” to get his children out of trouble.

“I’m scared by him, by his possibility,” Streep said. “And I do empathize with him. I can’t imagine what his 3 a.m. is like. There is a gathering storm. Everybody feels it. He feels it. His children are in jeopardy and I feel that. I think, what if my children were jeopardy? I would do anything—anything—to get them out of trouble. So we should be afraid.”

Trump is not a fan of the award-winning actress, either. After her big speech at the Golden Globes last year where she attacked Trump, though not by name, he called her “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood.”
