In an interview with Hugh Hewitt Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the Democratic focus on the impeachment trials back in January distracted the federal government from properly assessing the threat presented by COVID-19, and taking appropriate actions.
According to The Hill, McConnell said, “It came up while we were tied down in the impeachment trial. And I think it diverted the attention of the government because everything every day was all about impeachment.”

Republican Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who also made an appearance on “The Hugh Hewitt Show” Tuesday, echoed Leader McConnell’s sentiments, stating, “I have to tell you that in mid-January and late January, unfortunately, Washington, especially the Congress, was consumed with another matter - you may recall the partisan impeachment of the president.”
