On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) took to the Senate floor to comment on the partisanship and opportunism that Democrats seem to be clinging to while preventing the approval of aid to the American people while the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, affects the national economy.

McConnell called out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in particular, along with a fellow Democrat who The Hill identified as House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.).

"I understand the Speaker said, following our meeting this morning, that she may simply give up on these bipartisan talks and begin writing her own separate bill," McConnell said. "Perhaps that's related to the remarks of one of her senior House Democratic leaders who reportedly told colleagues a few days ago, 'This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.'"

Seemingly in disbelief, following the senior senator from Kentucky's repeating of the "tremendous opportunity" remark, McConnell made it a point to remind Democrats what these bills are really about - helping the American people in a time of national emergency.

"Well, I sincerely hope that nobody actually views this crisis in such a cynical manner," McConnell said. "This is not a political opportunity. This is a national emergency."
