Russia has recently unveiled a new military project to build a futuristic exoskeleton suit for infantrymen that would challenge the United States Tactical Light Operator Suit (TALOS). The suit was recently unveiled at Moscow's National University of Science and Technology -- and it looks an awful lot like George Lucas' stormtrooper uniform.

The black Star Wars-esque suit was the brainchild of the Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Building, one of Russia’s main weapons designer companies as well as its primary military supplier.

Oleg Chikarev, deputy chief of weapons development systems at the institute, told RT, “We’re working on a concept for the combat suit of the future. On display is our vision of the suit we would like to develop within the next couple of years."

"We’re also working with [Russian] companies specializing in various elements of combat equipment and we’re creating the features which, in our opinion, will help our soldiers carry out their missions on the battlefield,” he added.

According to Popular Mechanics, the supersuit would come equipped with ballistic protection with sensors, a powered exoskeleton, and a heads-up display. It includes a motorcycle-style helmet that fully covers and protects the wearer.

Designers of the suit are hoping to have a fully functioning model up and running in just a few years and with advances in mechanics and military technology this suit and the others like it may be commonplace on the future battlefield. As we progress forward, the militaries of the world may start looking like something out of a Star Wars movie than what we're used to recognizing.
