Manhattan DA Says Office Won't Prosecute Protest Arrests: 'Moral Imperative' to 'Assure New Yorkers' That 'Black Lives Matter'

Remember the "opposite game" from when you were a kid? If you said something another student didn't like or didn't agree with, they'd say it was "opposite day." That game was a goof, and no one ever took it seriously. But it currently feels as if up is down and left is right, like we're living in an alternate reality or "The Twilight Zone." This might be the society we live in now, but I refuse to accept whatever this "new normal" might be for those practice at the alter of social justice.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. released a statement on Friday, because that's when politicians release the most important stuff - when no one's looking, that his office will not prosecute any protester that gets arrested on unlawful assembly or disorderly conduct charges during events that take place in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Vance also gave comments concerning the move in the statement:

The prosecution of protestors charged with these low-level offenses undermines critical bonds between law enforcement and the communities we serve. Days after the killing of George Floyd, our nation and our city are at a crossroads in our continuing endeavor to confront racism and systemic injustice wherever it exists. Our office has a moral imperative to enact public policies which assure all New Yorkers that in our justice system and our society, black lives matter and police violence is a crime. We commend the thousands of our fellow New Yorkers who have peacefully assembled to demand these achievable aims, and our door is open to any New Yorker who wishes to be heard.

Why don't we just go full "Mad Max" in this country? Let's just let lawlessness reign while the minority portion of Americans becomes the only ones who dare fight against it. Obviously that's sarcasm, but people have lost their minds. Sorry, not sorry, but I don't see how guilty white people taking a knee because someone requires their worship will fix anything.

True unity comes from being able to have rational conversation about topics where, even if the two parties disagree, they can come to some sort of compromise rather than resort to violence. This "all or nothing" mentality simply isn't going to work, and frankly, I'll never take a knee for anyone regardless of color, gender or sexual orientation.
