Contrary to the ongoing hysteria surrounding President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a majority of Americans actually agree with Trump that “having Russia in a friendly posture, as opposed to always fighting with them, is an asset to the world, and an asset to our country, not a liability.”

According to a new Rasmussen poll, 55 percent of Americans agree with Trump’s position. Thirty-percent (30%) disagree and 15 percent poll undecided.

The uproar and conspiracy theories over his comments at the Helsinki summit will not die down any time soon, with news of a proposed second summit between Trump and Putin in Washington this fall.

That summit would focus on national security concerns, an anonymous White House source told Fox News, including Russian meddling, nuclear proliferation, North Korea, Iran and Syria.

Rasmussen also asked whether voters think Trump has been more or less aggressive with Russia than past presidents. Forty-percent (40%) say Trump has been more aggressive versus 44 percent who think the opposite. Ten-percent (10%) “feel his attitude is about the same,” Rasmussen finds.

Along party lines, Republicans (62%) are more likely to view Trump as more aggressive than past presidents when dealing with Russia. Most Democrats (63%) disagree.

The Rasmussen poll of 1,000 likely U.S. voters was conducted July 17-18 and has a margin sampling error of three percentage points.
