A Lowe's in Texas is getting some national attention after a picture of two of their employees went viral.

As you can see in the picture above, one of those employees is a dog.

The Abilene Reporter-News first reported on Clay Luthy, an Air Force veteran, a C-130 loadmaster, and his fuzzy companion Charlotte, a 10-year-old golden retriever service dog who has been with Luthy since she was a puppy.

Luthy has blown out both of his knees, which has required five surgeries to try and fix. He can’t bend his left knee, and can only slowly bend down on his right side if he has to pick up something from a lower shelf. It’s Charlotte’s job to help Luthy get up if he falls.

“I got [Charlotte] as a puppy, and she was never supposed to be a service dog,” Luthy told a local Fox affiliate. “I found out a couple years ago she was alerting me, and I didn’t even know it.”

Luthy, of course, is nothing but a true patriot. He joined the military right after 9/11, and only left the service because his knee injuries prevented him from re-enlisting.

Luthy and his faithful dog first went viral after a Lowe's customer posted a picture on her Facebook page that showed both Luthy and Charlotte, and praised Lowes for hiring a veteran who was struggling to find a job that would also allow Charlotte to be with him. Luthy has seen the post, and he’s surprised at all the attention it’s bringing him.

“By the time I looked at it, there was 1,000 comments on it. Oh my gosh, it was ridiculous,” he said. That post now has almost 10,000 comments, and has been shared more than 150,000 times.

And the man who hired him says Luthy was the best man for the job.

“We went through the interview process and Clay and his own merit won the job,” said Jay Fellers, the Lowe’s human resource manager. “And we knew he was gonna make a great employee – we just got the benefit of getting Charlotte right along with him.”

For her part, Charlotte seems to be enjoying her new line of work. Although she can often be found lying on the ground near Luthy, customers have clearly taken a liking to her. She’s a perfect way to entertain kids who might otherwise be bored shopping for home improvement supplies, and she just overall makes people happier. She seems to be getting used to the job too, as the original story recalled a time when Charlotte walked up to a woman in a motorized wheelchair, who was obviously delighted to see her.

She’s getting old, however, and Luthy is training another service dog, Lola, to eventually take over for Charlotte. When asked about any future plans for her, Luthy said that Charlotte might spend her golden years visiting people in hospitals and nursing homes.

For now though, both Luthy and Charlotte have captured the hearts of the nation.
