Lib Women Pose Nude to Inspire People to Vote Blue for Midterm

What happens when 10 Democratic women get together to inspire people to vote?

Give up? Well, I’ll help you… they get naked! Yep, naked.

Ten Vermont women of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds decided to go “au naturel” in a photo shoot to show that they were “unhappy with the direction of the country."

The movement, known as #GrabThemByTheBallot (an obvious play on Trump’s now infamous phrase “grab ‘em by the p***y"), was created as part of the Get Out The Vote campaign.

In hopes of encouraging people to vote blue on Nov. 6, these women posed nude with just a sheet of paper, labeled “2018 Ballot,” covering their genitalia.

Dawn Robertson the 48-year-old organizer of this photo series, said she started it after “#MeToo allegations against prominent figures continued to rise,” according to The Daily Mail.

"With the Kavanaugh nomination and MeToo and Trump, women are rising everywhere. What the Republicans are doing to transgender rights, the way they are attacking women's reproductive rights and the collective trauma means that women are really coming to the forefront now. I hope that the pictures encourage women and marginalized communities to vote. I want them to know that their voice matters and this is serious s***,” Robertson said.

Robertson recruited women through social media and through a grocery store, saying, “people in real life were actually far more receptive to the idea than communities online.”

I’m sure you’re wondering, “Did a photo shoot like this face backlash?” According to Robertson, it sure did.

“I was told I was objectifying women, that nudity equals promiscuity and even that I was playing the part of a white savior. But I don't think that the pictures oversexualize the women. Nudity is fine, being naked is a natural expression," she said. "Men have sexualized and monetized women's bodies but these pictures give the power back to the woman.”

That’s right, blame the men.

Let’s think about this: the people who call for women to not be objectified and treated as sexual objects are the same people who think it’s a good idea to use their naked bodies to convince someone to vote?

Oh, the irony.

Though the goal of the photo series is to encourage folks to vote for liberals, if you check the pulse on Twitter you’ll find the image was quite off-putting:

The success of the image is yet to be determined, but I can’t help but ask the question: was it really to show people that they must oppose voting red next week? Or was it just to gain some attention?

I’m going to go with the latter.
