LeBron James Put Money Over Integrity By Giving China a Pass, Criticizes Free Speech

NBA all-time great LeBron James might want to look in the mirror when he calls someone else out for not being “educated” about a world political issue, especially when the person he calls out is a MIT graduate. Listen, just because you’re educated doesn’t make you intelligent about all topics. But in this instance, James is more worried about the money flowing into the NBA than any injustice facing people on the other side of the world.

James, who barely had to go through all four years of high school, wants the rest of us to know that Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey — who has a BA from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) — “wasn’t educated on the situation at hand” concerning his now-deleted tweet showing support for the people of Hong Kong.

The communist country of China was so furious over Morey’s tweet that their $1.5 billion deal with the NBA is in a state of flux. Many from across the NBA have either remained silent on the issue or, like James, have come up with excuses for the authoritarian regime in China.

Here’s part of what James said:

We all talk about this freedom of speech—yes, we all do have freedom of speech, but at times there are ramifications for the negative, that can happen, um, when you’re not thinking about others, or you’re only thinking about yourself. So, I don’t believe—I don’t want to get into a word or a sentence feud with Daryl, with Daryl Morey, but I believe he wasn’t educated on the situation at hand, and he spoke. And so many people could have been harmed, not only financially but physically, emotionally, spiritually. So just be careful what we tweet, what we say, and what we do, even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech, but there can be a lot of negative that comes with that, too.

Real quick, someone ask James - since he's so "educated" on the situation - what he thinks about the literal "re-education camps" China has been putting Muslims in. Just saying.

Anyway, James most likely isn’t saying what he said because he supports communists. But, it does seem like he’s saying that he supports Chinese money rolling in to line his pockets. He might as well have just told Morey not to mess with his money.

Here’s video of James’ comments:

He was kind of passive aggressive concerning the topic of freedom of speech though, wasn’t he? And James is aware that the U.S. is the only country with freedom of speech, right?

The funny thing is that I don’t even really need to explain James’ comments. They pretty much speak for themselves, as evidenced by tweets James sent after his press conference comments.

Oh, we’re weren’t confused, LeBron. We heard you pretty clearly. Freedom’s only worth it if it doesn’t mess with the money of people who are already part of the elite.

James certainly doesn’t come off looking any kind of good in this situation, and neither does the NBA. It doesn’t matter how many statements NBA Commissioner Adam Silver comes out with backing free speech. His players, whether it’s James or Houston Rockets star James Harden, are making the league’s stance well known.

Look, I’m not mad at James for being rich. Make as much money as you can while you can. But, when enough of that money apparently comes from a communist government that you look the other way in their regular persecution, maybe you could not be a hypocrite enough to talk about freedom for those you support over the freedom of those you don’t even know, all so you can make even more money than you’ve been making since you were 18-years-old.

If the NBA loses that authoritarian Chinese money, it looks like James is going to need another revenue stream to host another one of his “Taco Tuesdays.”

After all, he’s only reportedly worth $450 million.
