Stop me if you’ve heard this one. Two Louisiana state lawmakers walk into a bar — okay, I don’t have a punchline, but these two lawmakers certainly did.

La. state senator Norby Chabert and state representative Stuart Bishop — both Republicans — apparently got into a fist fight Tuesday night in a Baton Rouge, La. bar over undisclosed pending legislation.

"We had a gentleman's disagreement and settled it with our hands," Bishop said, according to the News Star.

Basically, the two had a disagreement over pending legislation and decided to handle it the old fashioned way. The two claim they are good friends, and that the violent aspect of their relationship is over.

“I'm sorry it happened," Bishop said. "We've been friends for a long time. As far as I'm concerned it's settled, but you'd have to talk to (Chabert)."

“I love Stuart like a brother, and sometimes brothers fight," Chabert told the News Star in a text. "We are both passionate people and sometimes that gets the best of us. Obviously, I regret the incident.”

While violence shouldn’t be the answer when it comes to coming to a conclusion about pending legislation, it would make for interesting television if a public debate ended in sanctioned boxing matches.

I’m just saying. I’d be entertained. It’d be way less boring than hearing the same five to ten talking points over and over and over again.

Bishop and Chabert both left the bar before authorities arrived on the scene. Neither man was arrested, and both men apologized for their actions.

“The integrity of this body is one thing I cherish and hold dear," Bishop told House members. "If I embarrassed any of you, I truly apologize.”

“I grew up in this chamber and in no way would I want to disparage anyone here," Chabert told fellow senators. "We're both better men than that and I humbly apologize.”

At least these two aren’t mortal enemies after this altercation. If they were, you’d probably hear liberals complaining about how violent Republicans are.
