Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway shut down CNN White House Correspondent Jim Acosta during a short press gathering Tuesday in an altercation that ended with her calling the once-blacklisted reporter a "smartass."
When Acosta snarkily asked Conway if she could promise that President Donald Trump would "tell the truth" during his national address on border security scheduled for Tuesday night, Conway replied with what can only be described as the perfect no-nonsense response.
In typical self-righteous, bullying fashion, Acosta demanded, "Kellyanne, can you promise the president will tell the truth tonight? Will he tell the truth?"
“Yes, Jim” Conway shot back. “Can you promise you will? The whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God? Am I allowed I say 'God' to you?”
"Make sure that goes viral," she added. "This is why I’m one of the only people around here who gives you the time of day,” Conway said. “You’re such a smartass most of the time and I know you want this to go viral."
Acosta repeatedly tried to edge back in control of the conversation, but Conway wasn't having any of it.
“Don't you put it back in my face for all corrections your network needs to issue,” she threw back.
“I was on your network 25 or 26 times in 2018. I’m one of the last people here who even bothered to go on, and the disrespect you showed to me personally, I’ll look past it," she continued, telling Acosta point-blank that many of the other reporters clustered around her "don't like you."
