Kamala Harris Laughs Off Questions About Why She Hasn't Visited the Border - Again

Kamala Harris once again laughed off questions about why she hasn’t yet visited the Southwest U.S. border, despite having been tapped to head up the Biden administration’s response to the ongoing immigration crisis that’s been ramping up ever since the 46th president’s inauguration back in January.

Responding to questions from NBC's Lester Holt, the vice president – fresh off a trip to Guatemala, but not her nation’s own overrun border towns – laughed dismissively and claimed she didn’t understand why everyone cares so much that she hasn’t seen the border crisis for herself.

“Do you have any plans to visit the border?” Holt pointedly asked Harris in an interview aired Tuesday.

“At some point…we are going to the border,” Harris responded.

“We’ve been to the border,” she then claimed, potentially referencing when she took trips to the border during the Trump administration to slam the then-president's strong border policies. “So this whole thing about the border…we’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”

“You haven’t been to the border,” Holt pressed.

“And I haven’t been to Europe,” Harris answered, laughing. “I don’t understand the point that you’re making. I’m not discounting the importance of the border.”

When Holt pointed out that even Democrats have urged Harris to visit overrun border towns and maxed-out detention facilities to see the crisis for herself, Harris responded, “Listen, I care about what’s happening at the border.”

“I’m in Guatemala because my focus is dealing with the root causes of migration,” she went on, adding, “It is my firm belief that if we care about what’s happening at the border, we better care about the root causes and address them.”

Axios reported Tuesday that according to data yet to be published publicly by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, border apprehensions topped 170,000 for the third straight month as the border crisis continues unabated, with nearly 1 million illegal aliens having been caught crossing the border unlawfully so far this fiscal year - with four months left to go.
