Colin Kaepernick’s legal team is trying to get the president involved with their legal action against the NFL.
They are reportedly looking to obtain federal subpoenas in the next few weeks in order to get President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to testify on record in regards to Kaepernick's collusion case against the NFL.
Kaepernick’s lawyers hope to gain details on the White House’s involvement with the league during the quarterback’s free agency, Yahoo Sports reported Thursday, citing sources with knowledge of the collusion case.
The aim will be a dive into the administration’s political involvement with the NFL during Kaepernick’s free agency and the league’s handling of player protests, sources said. This after recent disclosures that multiple owners had direct talks with Trump about players kneeling during the national anthem.
So here’s a new one –Colin Kaepernick isn’t quarterbacking for a NFL team, and it’s Trump’s fault.
This will be a tough conspiracy to prove. Yahoo sports indicates that due to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, Kaepernick’s legal team will have to argue that issuing subpoenas to Trump and Pence will have a relevant impact on his case.
Both an arbitrator and a federal judge would have to agree on issuing the subpoenas before this would even come before Trump’s legal team.
This sounds like a 'Hail Mary' legal pass.
