Apparently, parents who are concerned that critical race theory is being shoved down their kids' throats, that their daughters are being assaulted in bathrooms by "trans" kids, that they're being labeled terrorists by school boards and that their kids are being forced to don face diapers for hours at a time - they're all racists.
And demanding that parents have rights in schools is simply a "dog whistle" for white supremacists.
In a new op-ed for The Hill, Fox News contributor Juan Williams purported that “parents’ rights” is really a conservative euphemism for "white race politics," pointing at “suburban white moms” who are incensed that their kids are “learning about racism.”
Williams writes:
The rallying cry is "Parents’ Rights."
It is a campaign to stop classroom discussion of Black Lives Matter protests or slavery because it could upset some children, especially white children who might feel guilt.
Guilt over what? Slavery that ended more than 150 years ago? The actions of other white people who lived in generations past, and who may or may not even be the distant relatives of said children?
But apparently, Williams is fine with telling white children, some of them of elementary age, that they are somehow responsible for the sins of other white people with whom they share a similar skin color but perhaps not even any ancestry. He insists that books like Toni Morrison’s “Beloved” have a place on public school required reading lists – despite including explicit sexual material.
“Now the message is that white parents are being ignored when they complain that their children are uncomfortable learning about racism,” Williams said, slamming Republicans like Virginia gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin, who’s made parental rights in schools a cornerstone of his campaign.
Perhaps, in his haste to one again blame everything on the giant boogeyman of “racism,” Williams missed all the black, Hispanic and Asian parents who’ve stood up to decry Critical Race Theory in America’s public schools. We didn’t. (See here. And here. And here.)
It also seems Williams missed the fact that concerned parents – many of them non-whites – are also fighting schools on trans policies that saw the Loudoun County School Board in Virginia cover up the sexual assaults of two young teen girls by a boy wearing female clothing who, after attacking one girl and getting away with it, raped and sodomized another 14-year-old girl in a bathroom.
He missed the scores of parents angry that their children are still being forced to wear dirty facemasks over their noses and mouths for hours during the school day, despite the nearly non-existent rate of serious illness or death from COVID among children.
He missed the school in Hazard, Kentucky, that was just caught hosting a homecoming event in which adolescent male students lap-danced upon laughing male faculty members while teenage girls pranced around in Hooters’ outfits.
He missed when one school board president pointedly told a parent “f*** you” when she complained about mask mandates and pushed back on forced vaccines.
Or when another school district made it a condition of speaking before the board that a parent reveal his or her full home address on a live-streamed public broadcast.
Or that the National School Boards Association actually labeled parents who show up to complain to their local school boards “domestic terrorists” (for which they later apologized after outrage from the public and some school districts).
But for Williams, it’s far easier to simply scream “racism,” a complaint that’s become the left’s knee-jerk reaction to shut down any debate they can’t win and don’t wish to have – especially during elections they very well might lose.
