In what many would consider ironically shortsighted, Biden made appeals to an inclusive justice and tolerance for all Americans, while then condemning the sitting President and insulting the millions who voted for him.
While addressing an LGBT Rights dinner on Saturday, former Vice President stated: "Despite losing in the courts, and in the court of opinion, these forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made," he continued. "This time they -- not you -- have an ally in the White House. This time they have an ally. They're a small percentage of the American people -- virulent people, some of them the dregs of society."
Many are speculating that Biden is rallying supporters for a presidential run. Many in the crowd yelled, "Run Joe!" to which he replied "Thank you."
Hillary Clinton made very similar comments when she referred to "half" of Trump's base as "deplorables" during the 2016 campaign. "To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said in September 2016. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."
Regardless of party affiliation, it seems strategically nonviable to proclaim an "inclusive" love for all Americans, and then condemn a large portion of its legal citizenry who have been here for generations. Ironically, the most pervasive and openly expressed "-phobia" in America right now might be of Trump supporters themselves.
