It’s just getting worse and worse. With all of the virtue signaling, identity-based narratives that Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot pushes — not to mention her own racism — it’s a wonder if she has any time at all to address the crime that has plagued the city for decades. So for crime to be rising in different crime-ridden areas in Chicago is a feat in and of itself and is a testament to the failures of the Lightfoot regime.

At least five people were murdered and another 72 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is up from the previous weekend, which saw at least seven people killed and another 45 wounded.

The Chicago Sun-Times hasn’t updated their numbers since Sunday morning, so a list of the victims’ fatally shot over the weekend won’t be provided here this week. The Sun-Times did report on what they’re calling two separate “mass shootings” that occurred “within hours of each other.”

At least two people were killed and another 17 were wounded in those two incidents alone.

According to CBS 2 - Chicago, the ages of the victims who died of their wounds range in from 21 to 57 years of age. Also, “at least seven of the surviving victims were 17 or younger.”

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 129 people have been murdered and another 766 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago,  hasn’t updated their numbers since reporting that — as of June 14 — 1,587 people have been shot this year. That number is 195 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
