Have you ever heard of a derecho?
As the mainstream media focuses on the Democratic VP pick and hyped up U.S. Postal Service conspiracy theories, a derecho with wind speeds over 100 miles per hour ripped up Iowa last week.
The storm left over 500,000 Iowans without power for several days, some still not having power a week later. It destroyed over 8,000 homes and 13 million acres of agriculture. Not to mention livestock. People’s entire livelihoods were destroyed in a matter of minutes.
The derecho even took the lives of three Iowans.
But what have you heard in the media? A focus on Sen. Kamala Harris and hyped-up conspiracy theories about the postal service and the upcoming election.
Iowans have noticed and have taken to social media to express their displeasure:
If only the massive storm that hit Eastern Iowa last week had knocked over a statue. Then maybe the national media would be paying more attention to the incredible damage it caused? https://t.co/PXNtV7RjaN

@BBCNews Apperently the US national media doesn’t care that a catagory 3 inland HURRICANE came through the state of Iowa last week destroying the state. Many still without power, food, and water. Total Devistation. No one is covering this at all. #IowaDerecho #Iowahurricane

I realize that there are a lot of things to focus on, but our neighbors in Iowa are still trying to recover from a Natural Disaster of Hurricane proportions. Where is the National Media Coverage? HELLO? @hodakotb @SavannahGuthrie @TODAYshow https://t.co/nikUjwiypB
