The 86-year difference between Erling Kindem and Emmett does not hold back their friendship.

Together, they recently celebrated Erling’s 90th birthday, for which the World War II veteran had special dog tags made that read  "Emmett & Erling" and "Friends Forever.”

Emmett and Mr. Kindem used to be neighbors, but, they've both moved - one to a house in the country and the other to a retirement community.

Erling's wife Joyce said that her husband misses having Emmett around. Emmett’s mother, Anika Rychner, said that her son's relationship with Erling is a very special one

Anika and her husband both make regular trips to see Erling where he and his young pal take rides in the elevator and compete in foot races in the basement.

They have a surprising amount of things in common, such as not being able to drive, getting food made by other people, and a love for driving lawn mowers.

"You come back again," Erling told him as Emmett headed for the door from after the birthday party.

Emmett promised he would.
