In a speech praising efforts to ensure women have abortion access through insurance, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker vowed the make Illinois “the most progressive state in the nation” when it comes to abortion.

During a speech at a Planned Parenthood in Chicago, Pritzker waxed poetic about new bill that requires the Illinois Department of Central Management and Services to make sure all the state’s insurance plans for government employees include abortion services, detail this coverage clearly and identify where it doesn’t comply with the state’s law.

“This order will make it clear that state employees receiving government funded health insurance have the same rights to control their bodies and make their own healthcare decisions as everyone else in the state,” Pritzker said, while also vowing that Illinois “will be the most progressive state in the nation when it comes to guaranteeing women’s reproductive rights.”

Pritzker may have some competition from New York, which just passed a bill legalizing abortions through the ninth month of pregnancy for any reason. In celebration of his state’s newly-expanded infanticide permissions, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the One World Trade Center lit up pink to commemorate the grisly occasion.
