ICE has issued an immigration detainer for an illegal alien from Mexico arrested for sexually assaulting a fourth-grade girl in South Carolina.
Carlos Bartolo-Rios, 29, was arrested in Charleston County after police say the young girl told her school counselor that Bartolo-Rios had touched her inappropriately. After investigating the claim, officials say the discovered Bartolo-Rios had sexually violated the girl multiple times between February and June, and had exposed her to porn while instructing her not to tell anyone.
ICE officials say they plan to take custody of Bartolo-Rios following his court proceedings.
“This case is an excellent example of ICE’s ongoing focus to prioritize its immigration enforcement efforts toward unlawfully present foreign nationals who pose a clear threat to public safety,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Atlanta Acting Field Office Director John Tsoukaris. “Despite attempts by some to confuse the public, ICE does not conduct any type of random or indiscriminate enforcement and the agency’s targeted enforcement efforts make communities safer for all persons whatever their immigration status may be.”
Bartolo-Rios is currently being held by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office facing state criminal charges for sexual assault of a minor under the age of 11.
