Federal immigration authorities have reportedly arrested an illegal alien from Mexico after he was released from the Multnomah County jail in Oregon following his conviction for raping a dog to death.

Yes. Raping a dog.

According to Oregon Live, ICE said they apprehended 52-year-old Fidel Lopez after the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office refused to honor an immigration detainer issued for him during his stint in jail. Lopez had been convicted of sexually assaulting his fiancee’s Lhasa Apso mix to the point where the dog had to be euthanized. Oregon Live reports Lopez “was sentenced to three years of probation and 60 days in jail on April 8, but was let out of jail immediately because he had already served the time leading up to his sentencing hearing.”

ICE had requested the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office give them a heads up before Lopez’s release so he could be transferred to ICE custody for immigration violations, but local authorities refused. Instead, Immigration officials picked Lopez up at his home following his release and have said they’ll hold him until his immigration proceedings are resolved.

It’s not the first time ICE has contested the Mutnomah County Sheriff’s Office for ignoring immigration detainers placed against dangerous criminals. Just last year, the Multnomah jail also released 46-year-old Martin Gallo-Gallardo despite ICE’s request. A few months after his release, Gallo-Gallardo was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and dumping her body in a ditch.
