Things are heating up around the debate over sanctuary cities as hundreds of protestors on both sides of the issue faced off Friday in Rockville, Maryland, just days after a Nigerian illegal alien was arrested in Montgomery County for allegedly raping a woman in his car while she was intoxicated.

Several roads were closed during the “Help Save Maryland” rally as the Rockville-based Concerned Citizens Coalition of Montgomery County faced off with pro-amnesty groups like CASA de Maryland and MoCo Stands with Immigrants on either side of Maryland Avenue. The center of the debate: a recent executive order issued by the Montgomery County Council prohibiting local law enforcement from fully cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Anti-sanctuary city protesters say the policy creates a public safety hazard by not doing enough to ensure illegal aliens who commit violent crimes are removed from the community.

Counter-protesters, on the other hand, said things like...well, this.

At least eight illegal aliens have been arrested in Montgomery County over the past two months for sex crimes, a list that includes 26-year-old Oluwakayode Adebusuyi, a Nigerian national reportedly living in the U.S. unlawfully when he was arrested on August 28 for sexually assaulting the woman in his car while she was drunk. Just weeks before, two illegal aliens from El Salvador were arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl, a horrifically violent account that has reportedly spurred Montgomery County officials to consider at least partially cooperating with ICE detainers by giving ICE a heads up when certain criminal aliens are released from custody.
