The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals went several steps further down the road of insanity last week as they attempted to change the name of road in Idaho that they believed reminded an animal of how delicious it was.
PETA sent a letter to Caldwell Mayor Garret L. Nancolas suggesting he change the name of the city’s well-known Chicken Dinner Road to a “kinder alternative,” something that would let chickens know their lives mattered.
Their suggestion: Chicken Road.
“We’re not trying to ruffle any feathers, but words matter and have the power to change lives, both human and nonhuman,” PETA wrote in a press release. “We hope you will encourage residents to appreciate chickens as individuals who deserve our respect and cry fowl about this archaic road sign that labels them merely as ‘dinner.’”

As you can see, the animal rights organization is not joking when it comes to this matter—they're dead serious. Nevertheless, people are still laughing in their faces.
“Regarding the PETA request...When I first received the letter, I thought it was a joke, I literally laughed!” Mayor Nancolas wrote in a Facebook post. “When I realized the letter was for real, it made me extremely irritated that they would waste our time with such a ridiculous request!!”
The Caldwell mayor went on to reveal that Chicken Dinner Road wasn’t even in his city’s jurisdiction, meaning he had no authority to change the name.
“That being said,” he continued, "even if it was [in Caldwell’s jurisdiction], NO WAY, NO CHANCE I would ever consider this truly unbelievable request!! We have many issues to consider, but this IS NOT one of them!”
As KTVB-TV reports, the road is actually in Canyon County and their commissioners are “very unlikely” to take up this ridiculous request for a name change.
