Huh?! Fake News Media Concerned About Being Called Fake News for Reporting Fake News

If you didn’t know, President Trump does not like “fake news.” You can imagine why he doesn’t like it — because it is FAKE.

Just last week, the media ran with a faux story from Buzzfeed that claimed President Trump directed his now former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress. This “great information” got the media so excited that they “forgot” to verify if what was being reported was true.

It only took a few hours after the story came out and the truth became apparent: the Buzzfeed article was pure garbage. Surprise, surprise.

Some folks in the media weren’t too concerned that they just reported fake news, they were more concerned that people would now call them fake news for sharing news that was fake. They figured that it wouldn’t be the right thing for people to do them. Interesting.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper held a panel on his show and his guest Jeffery Toobin, a CNN analyst and writer for The New Yorker, expressed just that.

"I have a different view of the implications of all this. My view is the larger message that a lot of people are going to take from this story is that the news media are a bunch of leftist liars who are dying to get the president, and they're willing to lie to do it," Toobin told Cooper.

“I just think this is a bad day for us,” he added. “It reinforces every bad stereotype for the news media.”

And rightfully so.

After CNN’s Brian Stelter tried to play clean up following Toobin’s remarks, Maggie Haberman, a White House Correspondent for The New York Times, echoed Toobin’s claims that the media would be dealing with some backlash after dishing out fake news.

“This will be used, obviously, against the media as a whole. But I hope we can see past that,” Stelter said.

“I think that the president is very likely at best… to see this as evidence for his attacks on the media being justified,” Haberman responded. “And I think that his supporters would say that that is understandable.”

The liberal media’s anxiety didn’t stop there, CNN’s Chris Cuomo was feeling a pretty similar way, claiming “Mueller didn’t do the media any favors.” He forgot to add that they haven’t been doing themselves any favors.

"And he did do the president one, because as you saw with Rudy Giuliani and as I'm sure you'll see with the president himself, this allows them to say, 'You can't believe it. You can't believe what you read, you can't believe what you hear, you can only believe us. Even the special counsel says that the media doesn't get it right,'" Cuomo said.

Clearly, Trump was going to have some fun with this like the media feared. He responded in his usual form, on Twitter, calling this incident out for what it was, “fake news.”

The liberal media should be more concerned about facts and telling people the truth. If you screw up, apologize, and then put out the real information. In these instances, we see reporters and analysts worrying about the president calling them fake news when they literally put out incorrect and misleading news. Trump would only be telling the truth when he called them out, and isn’t that what they’ve been asking him to say all this time? The truth?
