House Rep. Ilhan Omar: Republicans Are ‘The Looney Tunes’

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar can’t keep her mouth shut.

As of Friday, GOP House Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been banned from two congressional committees for making inappropriate comments about 9/11, school shootings, and peddling bizarre theories about Jewish-controlled space lasers, among other things. But before Greene was censured, Omar got involved in the issue.

In a segment on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes on February 3, just before Greene’s censuring, Hayes accused Republicans of “deflecting” attention away from Greene’s controversial statements by pointing to Ilhan Omar, whose own history is riddled with anti-Semitic comments. Hayes alleged Greene has publicly advocated for murdering members of the Democrat party, while Omar has never done any such thing.

Hayes had apparently chosen to ignore the fact that Omar had made her own share of offensive remarks similar to Greene's, for which she's never been held directly accountable. Omar once described 9/11 as “some people did something,” and tweeted that “Israel has hypnotized the world. May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

But the Minnesota congresswoman didn’t take kindly to the GOP’s criticism, believing instead that they should punish Greene for her own statements, and she told Hayes exactly what she thought of the Republican Party.

“The Republicans truly have lost their way," she said. "Their party is destroyed. Their base now is conspiracy theorists. It's cowards, it’s opportunists, it’s grifters and sadly they're becoming the looney tunes. These are people who we can’t take serious [sic]. They’re not here to do the people’s business. They are here to just be obstructionists and make a mockery of not just our government, but our country.”

If Republicans are the "looney tunes," what was that clownish stunt performed by the Squad in the House yesterday? For all her talk of taking people seriously, how can anybody regard Omar - or her fellow "Squad" members for that matter - as anything else but drama queens after that spectacle?

Omar is decidedly as silly as a cartoon character herself, and it’ll be interesting to hear what her and the Squad come up with next.

But that’s all for now, folks.
