Haley: NYT ‘Knew the Facts’ About the Curtains - ‘Released the Story Anyway’

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley in a recent interview with Fox News slammed The New York Times for knowingly publishing a misleading headline for a story that suggested she spent over $52,000 taxpayer dollars on curtains for her Manhattan residence.

“You know, unfortunately if you’re in public service, this is the life we live everyday," said Haley. "You know, we’re stopping stories every day that aren’t truthful or don’t have the facts. So this one, I hadn’t even taken the job when these curtains were picked out."

"We told the reporters that these were the facts," she went on. "They knew the facts and they released the story anyway."

"And it was down in the story, in like the seventh paragraph down in the bottom," Haley added.

The New York Times last week ran an article with the headline, “State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley’s Residence.”

Yet, within the article, it states that the curtains were purchased under the Obama administration, not by Haley nor the Trump State Department.

Haley said during the interview that the reporters had spoken with her office and knew that fact, which, obviously, they did, or else it wouldn't have been in the original article to begin with.

After facing backlash for the blatant click-bait deceit perpetrated by the newspaper, The Times issued a correction to the headline, as well as changed the cover photo of the article, which had previously featured a picture of Haley.

The headline now reads, “State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Residence of U.N. Envoy.”

The Times also issued an editor’s note admitting that the headline was “unfair.”

Haley said that she appreciates the retraction but unfortunately, "the damage has been done."
