Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) squared off in Farmville, Va., Tuesday night at the first and only 2016 vice presidential debate.

On the subject of law enforcement, Gov. Pence said praised police officers for their hard work and sacrifice.

“Police officers are the best of us,” he said. “The men and women, white, African American, Asian, Latino, Hispanic… They put their lives on the line every single day.”

He criticized Sen. Kaine and his running mate Hillary Clinton for promoting an anti-police culture.

“Senator, please, enough of this seeking every opportunity to demean law enforcement broadly by making the accusation of implicit bias every time tragedy occurs,” said Pence.

“Donald Trump and I believe men and women in law enforcement are not a force for racism in America. They are a force for good,” he argued.
