As our society has fully adopted the “victim mentality,” this is what you get for being a Good Samaritan.
Cregg Jerri, the 58-year-old man who stopped an armed robber at a Starbucks in Fresno, Calif., on July 21, is now facing a possible lawsuit from the criminal who attempted to rob the coffee shop.
According to the Fresno Bee:
Ryan Michael Flores, 30, readily admitted in a jailhouse interview that he was wrong to pull a fake gun and then a knife while masked during the July 21 robbery gone bad at the coffee shop near Herndon Avenue and Highway 99.
But Flores says he was simply trying to get away after Cregg Jerri, 58, smacked him over the head with a chair. As the fight went to the floor, Jerri managed to get control of Flores’ knife and the younger man was stabbed repeatedly. Jerri was also seriously injured – slashed in the neck, and he received six staples after the confrontation.
Let me get this straight. Jerri tries to stop an armed robber, get stabbed in the neck, and he’s the criminal?
Granted the only people that think Jerri is a criminal for using “excessive force” in stopping Flores is Flores himself and his family.
“The guy, in my opinion, went from a good Samaritan to a vigilante,” Flores’ mother Pamela Chimienti told KSEE - Fresno. “Stabbing somebody that many times, it doesn't take that many stab wounds to get somebody to succumb to you.”
Not that I would know, but I would imagine that once you’ve been stabbed yourself, self-preservation takes over. Jerri probably wasn’t counting how many times he was stabbing Flores.
The Fresno Bee also reported that Ty Kharazi, Jerri’s attorney, and attorney William Schmidt both say that Jerri will most likely not be facing any penalties. Schmidt practices law in excessive-force cases.
“He (Flores) pulled a gun, the (cashier) starts laughing at him,” Kaharazi said. “Then he pulls a knife and (Jerri) was hitting him with the chair. (Flores) turns and stabs Jerri … My client is a good Samaritan.”
While Flores admits his guilt in trying to rob the store, he played the victim card with the media.
“He just started stabbing me,” Flores said. He allegedly told Jerri, “I have a son, please stop.”
If Flores was so worried about being a part of his son’s life, he shouldn’t have put himself in a position to be taken away from his boy.
Because Flores believes that injustice was done to him in this situation, he mentioned how unfair it would be for him to face additional time for the harm he caused to Jerri.
“I’m willing to do a year, a year and a half,” he said. “But not two or four years.”
Call me crazy, but it doesn’t seem like Flores will get much of a say in terms of his sentencing. You have to give Flores credit. He plays the victim quite well.
Flores is facing armed robbery charges and should be back in court in October.
