Emboldened by his perceived win against Mexico, President Trump is back on the tariff warpath, this time threatening China. The move comes as the latest G20 Summit approaches, where the two superpowers will likely discuss their ongoing economic feud.

Xi Jinping is expected to attend, with Trump saying in a CNBC interview on Monday, "I think he will go and I think we're scheduled to have a meeting. I think he'll go… I haven't heard that he's not. We're expected to meet, and if we don't, that's fine and if we do that's fine."

However, it’s clear where the 45th President’s preferences on meeting with the Chinese leader lie.

When asked if Xi Jinping failing to meet with him would result in tariffs on $300 billion of goods which have largely been unscathed by the current trade war, the President responded, "Yes it would."

Calling back to his reality television roots, Trump told reporters on the south lawn of the White House that “[i]nteresting things will happen,” at the summit.

Only time will tell if the President’s gambit will pay off, but one thing is for sure, it makes for exciting television.
