Dennis Rodman Heads to North Korea to 'Open the Door' to Better U.S. Relations

Dennis Rodman arrived in North Korea this week, claiming he plans to “open the door” for relations between the United States and the dictatorial regime. All things considered, he might have his work cut out for him.

Rodman’s fifth trip to the ‘hermit kingdom’ comes during what might be one of the trickiest times to make such a trip, considering the escalating tension between the U.S and N. Korea. The nation's missile tests and military exercises have been happening at a nerve-wracking pace, giving many people reason to believe that it was not a wise choice to go.

The controversial basketball player is no stranger to criticism, given he recently received scorn for his statements calling Kim Jong-Un a “friend for life” in 2014. At the time, Rodman also refused to discuss the jailing and abuse of four Americans detained in Pyongyang, saying that was “not my purpose now."

Although there is no clear reasoning for the trip other than Rodman’s claim to "open the door," things have gotten a bit weird since he arrived. The former Bulls player brought a series of puzzling presents for Kim Jung Un, including two autographed jerseys, two soap sets, a mermaid jigsaw puzzle, a copy of “Where’s Waldo?” and a copy of Donald Trump's “The Art of the Deal.”

Rodman continues to distance himself from serious issues, claiming that the purpose of his trips is for “basketball diplomacy.”

It may just be my opinion, but it looks like Kim Jong-Un is that crappy rich kid in school that not many people like but has all the cool stuff, and Rodman just wants to hang out to play with his toys.
