Kellie Collins was in the running for the Democratic candidacy for Georgia’s 10th District congressional seat against incumbent Rep. Jody Hice.

Now, she's turned herself in and has been charged with murder of Curt Cain, her former campaign treasurer, along with grand larceny.

Collins allegedly shot Cain, according to a local report, after Cain asked his former employer for a well-being check -- a charge that's pretty ironic, given Collins ran on the platform of strict gun control where she advocated for “responsible” gun control laws “to protect the community.”

Collins dropped out of her race for the congressional seat citing personal reasons. The Washington Post reported she and Cain were living together at the time of his murder, adding it was unclear whether or not the two were married.

Collins had previously said she'd decided to run for office in the 2018 midterms so she could fight against the Trump administration’s agenda, once calling the president an "unqualified demagogue."

"I have always tried to help my community through my lifetime, but I had a bit of an epiphany when the 2016 election showed how little the public voice is heard (especially in the U.S. House of Representatives) by our elected government," she’s said. "I started feeling as if someone should stand up and speak out against it."

Cain died from blood loss, according to reports. His body was found last week during a welfare check after he didn't show up to work. He had reportedly been dead four days before Collins turned herself in, according to the coroner who did the autopsy.
