Finally! Chicago is beginning to use their noodle a little bit.

“Homicide City” has become so dangerous that the Chicago Police Department (CPD) are graduating nearly 100 new officers and putting them on the streets beginning Tuesday.

Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, but that hasn't deterred criminals. According to WGN, 13 people were killed and another 46 were wounded between last Friday night and Monday morning alone. People are sick and tired of the violence, even though the federal government has all but ignored what has become a daily occurrence.

Chicago had 480 homicides in 2015, and is well on its way toward crushing that number this year. The urban war zone has already surpassed 300 homicides this year, and we’re only in June.

Overall, Chicago will be placing 97 new officers on the force and are adding 88 new sergeants to a department and city that desperately needs the help.

Chicago’s Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the department’s focus is to get illegal guns off the streets. But despite the CPD taking in over 4,200 illegal guns so far this year, the violence has not been tampered.

Hopefully this is a good start for Chicago. Because if the violence gets worse, Chicago might have to change its nickname to the one coined by residents: Chi-Raq.
