A deputy district attorney was allegedly attacked by gang members in Orange County, California in an attempt to prevent her from giving her closing arguments in a gang murder trial.

The deputy DA had stumbled into the Newport Workout gym in Newport Beach around 5:45 am Thursday morning, after being attacked, where she was aided by a trainer inside, Fox 11 Los Angeles reported. "It looked as if a bucket of red blood - paint was poured over her head and every part of her face and shirt was red," said Ron Cary, the trainer who helped the deputy DA.

"I overheard her saying she either works for the DA or is the DA of San Bernardino and she's either in a trial or acting for the murder trial," Cary added. San Bernardino County District Attorney's Spokesperson Christopher Lee confirmed this saying "a member of our office was involved in an incident that is currently under investigation."

In a report from My News LA, the victim was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. She suffered a cut to the head but she was not sexually assaulted or robbed, according to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department.

Manzella also claimed that police are investigating the link between the deputy DA's work on a pending murder case and the gruesome attack.
