An 83-year-old man in La Puente, California decided to take the law into his own hands by shoving a suspected burglar off his roof and into police custody.

This story began around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday when authorities reported a 911 call from someone claiming he was being followed. When police arrived on scene, they found a man jumping from rooftops trying to evade capture.

The suspect's roof-jumping had apparently gone on for several hours. Eventually, the sheriff's department even called in a crisis-negotiator to try and talk the suspect down. It was at this point that 83-year-old William Burgess decided enough was enough

The elderly man and resident reportedly "got tired" of the suspect's dramatic evasion and climbed the roof of his home to take care of the matter himself. He picked up a neighbor's ladder and told deputies that he would be climbing onto the roof. While Burgess climbed up to confront the suspect, his granddaughter, Ashley Wrenn, recorded the ordeal.

In the span of a shocking few moments, Burgess confronted the suspect, grabbed a hold of him, and promptly shoved him off the roof.

Wrenn told ABC that she was thankful her grandfather stood up to protect her family, while Burgess claimed that maintaining his fitness was very important to him.

"I tell everybody, 'Just because you're old, that don't mean you got to sit down. As long as you're able to move, move,'" he told ABC 7.
