(UPDATE: 1/13/19): Johnson eventually responded to the irresponsible story published everywhere from Fox News to TMZ, saying in a video on Instagram that the interview “never took place, never happened, I never said any of those words, completely untrue, 100% fabricated.” The MRCTV headline has been changed to reflect this important update. The Daily Star did not print a retraction on their false story. They simply removed the article from their website.)

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson on Outrage Culture: 'Snowflake' Generation 'Looking For a Reason' to be 'Offended'

What happens when you’re offended? You might be upset or sad about whatever brought offense to you, but what actually happens to you when you’re offended? The answer is nothing. Stop being so sensitive, be offended for a few minutes and move on with your day.

Actor and part-time professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson thinks that the younger generations “are looking for a reason to be offended,” and by the looks of our society today, he’s not wrong.

Johnson did an interview with the U.K.’s Daily Star, published on Friday, where he spit a bunch of truth about outrage culture.

“So many good people fought for freedom and equality - but this generation are looking for a reason to be offended,” Johnson said. "If you are not agreeing with them then they are offended - and that is not what so many great men and women fought for.”

And that’s the problem.

From my experience, being overly offended isn’t exclusive to young people. But, people in general look to be offended so they can feel something, anything that lights a fire in them. Human nature dictates that people want to feel like they have a purpose in life, and unfortunately some people find their purpose to be annoyed at everything that might go against their delicate sensibilities.

Johnson also praised the freedoms that we all enjoy, but with a caveat:

We thankfully now live in a world that has progressed over the last 30 or 40 years. People can be who they want, be with who they want, and live how they want. That can only be a good thing – but generation snowflake or, whatever you want to call them, are actually putting us backwards.

Attempting to scrub all speech that might offend someone, somewhere is very regressive. It’s kind of ironic then that the people that usually get outraged at everything are “progressives.” They might want to rethink the title of their ideology, because the only thing progressive about outrage culture is how increasingly angry they get at the most benign things.

Apparently, Johnson doesn’t smell what the “snowflakes” have been cooking.
