You would think that for a body of government that is chock full of lawyers, they’d at least be able to understand the law. It seems as though that’s not the case as those on the left willfully ignore someone’s rights under the Constitution, which they all of a sudden seem to care about, all in an effort to remove a sitting president they don’t like from office.
During comments on the House floor last month, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that “the House provided President [Donald] Trump every opportunity to prove his innocence.”
Now I’m no lawyer, but I don’t think that’s how the justice system works. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I always thought that a person facing any type of charges is “innocent until proven guilty?”
Well, House Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins (R-Ga.) sat down for an interview on Fox News' "Life, Liberty & Levin" with host Mark Levin on Sunday to talk all things impeachment. Collins brought up Hoyer’s December comments and was bewildered by the audacity of said comments.
“Did we all of a sudden suspend the Bill of Rights?" Collins rhetorically asked. "Did we suspend any modicum of due process?”
Both questions are more than valid in response to Hoyer’s comments, which seemingly subvert due process.
“I don’t care if you think this president ought to be impeached or not. This is irrelevant,” Collins continued. “This should bother everybody.”
Bingo!
I don’t care what party you belong to, whether you like Trump or not, whether you’re black or white, man or woman, gay or straight, you should be afforded due process under the law. But people, like Hoyer, seem to be perfectly okay with stripping you of your rights when they don’t get their way.
People like that sound less like lawyers and more like petulant children.
