While protests took place around the country, there was a group of people neglected yet again by protesters - victims of shootings in Chicago. I’ve seen people bring up the Chicago shooting victims to activists, and the activists merely respond by saying that it isn’t the right time to talk about it. Well, when is the “right time?” I’ve been writing about weekend violence in Chicago for years, and it’s never the right time.

Another weekend has passed, and another few dozen people were shootings victims in the city of Chicago.

At least five people were murdered and 30 others were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is down from the previous weekend, which also had riots and looting in the wake of the death of George Floyd. At least 24 people were killed and 61 others were wounded. In a five-day period last week, including the previous weekend, at least 28 people were killed and another 107 were wounded.

Here are the names of the people who died over the weekend (Note: Some victims have not been identified or their names might not have been made public.):

Unidentified Male, 35

Pierre Johnson, 30

Dante Denny, 29

Johnathan Stanton, 31

August Gillis, 18

The running total for weekend shooting victims that MRCTV has kept since the beginning of 2020 is now up to at least 107 people killed and 532 people wounded for the year. The Chicago Tribune, who keeps track of all shooting victims for the year regardless of day, hasn’t updated their numbers since last week. The numbers for the total number of shooting victims for 2020 is still at 1,003 shooting victims, as of May 26.

If all of these activists truly believe that “Black Lives Matter,” they need to stop being so selective over which ones they use to promote their cause.
