A small business owner in Denver, Colorado is being fined by the city for refusing to clean up the crap on the sidewalk in front of his store.

And that’d be human crap. As in, actual excrement left there by humans. That he, a business owner, is apparently expected to clean up.

Jawaid Bazyar is the owner of FORETHOUGHT.net, an IT service specializing in cloud storage and servers. So when he says he’ll get rid of your crap, he means your old blurry photos from that family vacation in 2008 that you don’t want clogging up your Macbook. Not your actual crap.

And yet that’s exactly what he says the city has demanded he do. According to this, Denver has told him that if the homeless community prevalent around his business’ location in the city's Five Points neighborhood defecates on the sidewalk on his property, it’s his problem to deal with.

Bazyar, on the other hand, has said he’s stopped cleaning up the mess and has instructed his employees not to touch it, saying it’s a “health hazard” that his people “are not equipped to deal with.” He’s also charged that the city has continually refused to enforce their own laws against public urination and defecation that’s created the issue in the first place, making it the city’s responsibility to clean it up.

“If the city’s not going to enforce laws against trespassing, or camping, or public defecation and just make me bear the cost of these problems, that’s just not right,” Bazyar told CBS4.

The City of Denver cited Bazyar for failing to clean up the piles of poop, claiming he can receive additional citations for each day the mess isn’t dealt with.

Bazyar is heading to court on Dec. 18 to make his case for why he, as a local business owner, shouldn’t be made to play part-time janitor to the city’s homeless population.

“I’m going to go to court and do my best to argue that the City’s treatment of this unfair,” he said. “This is a public crime issue and a public health issue and the city is the organization that’s responsible for that.”

The good news is that if Bazyar can’t seem to get the City of Denver to cooperate, he can always move somewhere else. Maybe San Francis….

….never mind.
