Rep Robert Brady (D-PA) had warmhearted words for his Republican committee colleague Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) today:

" I want to take this opportunity to thank you. It's no secret that you won’t be returning in the next Congress, but this will be my last time I will be with you managing the committee funding. I’d like to say, and I know you are here 21 months more, and I’d like you to know that every chance I get with this microphone I will thank you. You are without question one of the classiest ladies I know in this House. You are fair, I enjoy going to the committee meetings, we smile before the meeting, and we smile and shake hands after the meeting. You are a pleasure to work with, I wish you well. . ."

Rep Brady then had some words for the rest of Congress,

"I only hope this House will take note of how our committee works: we work together, we compromise together, and because of that things get done.”

Rep Miller returned the kindness saying,

“Let me just sincerely thank my ranking member Mr. Brady. If I’m going to miss anything in this House it’s the great friendships I’ve made with many people, both Republicans and Democrats, and certainly (gesturing at Rep Brady) you are right at the top of that list. You have been nothing but professional in our committee deliberations and the way we handle all of these different challenges that come before our committee and I do think it is a good thing you point out our committee does operate in a very bipartisan way. We’re all about making sure this institution is able to do what the American people expect out of us, and we both share that passion. . . “

An example of respect, compromise, and bipartisanship came from the discussion for passing the House Administration Committee's budget. Rep. Miller,, the committee chair, talks said efficiency and stewardship of taxpayer dollars is a priority when figuring out House Committee funding.

Earlier in her speech, she said it is importance for the House Committees to provide oversight to the Executive (who has amassed a 30 percent increase in spending since 2008) and Judicial branches. Rep Miller said that some committees were granted funds for field hearings and for congressmen to get out of Washington and gather first-hand knowledge of how Federal programs function.
